Just a matter of time:

Was told tongiht that Buffalo''s four year, 30 million dollar offer to Shane Doan is legit. Coyotes only want to go two years for now.

That cap hit isnt coming off the books as Doan is over 35. He needs to produce for 4 years at a 7M+ cap hit. |

Neither am I. I like Doan, but not that much. I think if he signs that, we would have some serious regret down the road. That makes Chris Pronger's contract look not quite so bad. |

Darcy and CO. are stuck on the wrong player, Doan won't make that much if a change if any on this team. 7.5 mill for him and I was complaining about Ennis wanting 3-4 mill! I must be crazy. I guess they didn't learn from Leino. |

Pronger's contract was fine IMO. He was playing at a high level and was showing very little signs of slowing down. His skating was never fast, he has always relied on great gap control and anticipation (along with arguably the most tenacious style of play). You cant plan for concussions. |

Sadly thats what its going to take to get him to come to the Sabres instead of a serious contender. |

The problem is the style game he always played. At some point he was going to break down one way or another, and that actually started before last year. His body just can't handle it anymore. The same thing is probably going to happen to Doan. |

He's still got some gas left in the tank. I am for it. Who else are they going to sign? More money comes off the books next year. The guidance Doan could provide young guys like Foligno, Stafford, the G's, etc., can't be measured in statistics. This would be a move furthering the change of culture we have seen since Pegula took over. |

I think that I heard today that if the owners win the new CBA, Buffalo would be 18 million over the new cap... |

My guess would be if the cap is being lowered, then the players salaries would be getting cut as well. |

Ya, way too many teams would be over if they didnt cut salaries. |

Vanek gets a hard enough time making 7M, what kind of scorn is Doan going to be in for when he puts up his normal 20 goals 55 point years making that kind of money. |
